Summer Feeling in Art & Fashion Craft

It’s such a sultry and humid summer. The news often reports on disasters caused by global warming in different parts of the world. It makes me wonder whether AI will be able to help humans predict and prevent such catastrophes in the near future. Humanity must find solutions to address climate change, otherwise, things will only get worse.

Meanwhile, serious corruption scandals and conspiracies involving the former Korean president and his wife are coming to light through a special investigation. The supporters of the former president and the current conservative party are mostly high-value tax evaders, corrupt business-people, or, most strikingly, religious followers brainwashed by cult leaders. I was shocked to realize how deeply cult members have infiltrated different parts of society, manipulating people's minds. Despite being in prison, the former president, Yoon is reportedly still receiving various secret privileges. Fortunately, the current president, Lee is doing a good job of leading the country with stability and maintaining a positive public image. The First Lady, too, is well-regarded. I look forward to the next steps from the current president’s administration and the Democratic Party, hoping they will contribute to Korea’s future growth and a more robust democratic system.

Another thing that has caught my attention is 3I/ATLAS (or C/2025 N1), an interstellar object, or perhaps a mysterious alien spacecraft, currently speeding toward our solar system at 60 km/s. It’s expected to be observable at perihelion on October 29, 2025. Wow! I'm already thrilled just thinking about it.

My passion and effort in art, crafts, and novel writing have helped me get through this sweltering summer. At times, feelings of lethargy, distraction, or stress rise to the surface like bubbles on a still lake, disturbing the calm ripples of my mind. During these in-between moments, I don’t force myself, instead, I let time carry me along. Eventually, new ideas or fresh plans spark within me, recharging my energy and lifting me out of the swamp of inertia. I believe it’s worthwhile to pursue inspiration, creativity, and imagination, anything that brings positivity into my life.

Just like the complex and delicate world around us, there are intricate and subtle reactions constantly unfolding within us. I believe that phenomena we observe in cities, nature, the universe, and the flow of water reflect many of the same processes we experience internally. These reactions, mixing, clashing, and transforming,  might help me grow as I learn to navigate and overcome them.

When I was young, I loved reading the children's novel by Frances Hodgson Brunett, "The Secret Garden". Sometimes, I imagine living near a hidden garden, untouched and perfectly preserved, in this increasingly polluted world. I've tried to express in my illustration, a scene of myself as a fairy playing with pure-hearted animal friends. Once I finish a young adult novel I'm currently working on, I might start a children's book featuring animal friends in the forest as the main characters.

As the weather has become hot and humid, I’ve been using large hairpins or scrunchies to keep my long hair up. I realized I was always reaching for the same one out of habit, so recently, I started making a variety of them to match the vibe of my outfits.

I saw an 86-year-old Japanese woman on YouTube, making and wearing beautiful accessories like necklaces, earrings, and brooches. It was really inspiring to watch. Suddenly, it hit me that I should try making something with the materials I already own. To be honest, I don’t usually wear accessories other than earrings, so this time I only made earrings. But I will try creating a wide range of fashion accessories from time to time.
